I had this done since a few days but with the troubles with my cat I was forgetting to upload it (I'm missing her so much dammit ;___; ). I really need to cheer me up.
[edit]the cat returned home safe the day after luckily ;3;[/edit]

Anyway, for :icontelophase:'s Auto-Shoujo-Generator contest [link]

Here you have Your-Terribly-Cliche-Mahou-Shoujo manga (obviously, given the cover orientation, it's supposed to be a right-to-left book! XD)
I don't really have any aim for plot originality here :lol:, but when I saw that title this thing formed in my head almost immediately and I thought it was great to make it for the lulz XD Oh man, I hope the parrot hasn't been used as standard-kawaii-mascot already lol. XD I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was XDD;;

Since the rules state that you weren't forced to do a cover for a first volume, but could also do a volume n of choice, I chose to make a volume 4 only for the sake of writing that terrible summary of previous volumes XD I know most manga don't put that on the cover, but on the inside, but don't ruin my fun okay? XD;

I've seen some genius plots in the entries *^* It's great how you can come to such interesting concepts starting from a random (and mostly silly) title. I would definitely read a few of those if they were real XD (I'm not sure I'd buy my own even if it was free though lol--I even hadn't the courage to put on a fake price as other entries have XD BUT I REGRET NOTHING)

Anyhow... Cover illustration done in MyPaint from scratch, barcode generated with some site I don't remember the link anymore D: all the rest made with Gimp
**edit** I was forgetting to credit the brushes! Used for the feathers

I love the bit that's crossed out. "My beautiful self". Heehee. I sometimes wonder about magical girls who think like that. Would we keep enjoying the series if they were sort of vain?

Thanks :)
Well well, I guess it pretty much depends on how the character is worked out. Vanity and some egocentrism can be obvious flaw of a character, that can have other good traits that can compensate. If the character is vain and also obnoxious, arrogant and bitchy, and without any substance, well, that's just a bad developed character XD;

Yeah. That's true.
A kind of likable character who is vain is Kimi from Fruits Basket. She caused me to laugh, so I can't hate her. She's very optimistic.

X3 Really cute art. I can't say I would read the manga - I'm very selective about my Shoujo (honestly, I only read a few because they are either very strange or... actually, that about sums it up) - but it's still a really fun idea that I would not have thought up with that title. (Trust me, I've had some fun and written about 30 summaries for the Shoujo titles I've come up with, as well as actually writing one of them in story form, so I know how these things go... but your story totally made me think "... huh". It works though!)

I don't read much Shoujo, so I dunno about the parrot being used yet, but better that than a cat 'cause those are so overused. I know there was a parrot in Bleach, but that was only in a few chapters towards the start and it was actually possessed by the spirit of a little kid, so I don't think it counts.

O_O; How many languages do you speak, anyway? I saw in one of your comments you were writing in a romance language - Italian, right? - and from the looks of it you're better at Japanese than I am *only just finished second year* and you obviously speak English @o@ I'm very impressed.

Thanks! Lol I probably wouldn't read that manga myself XD That's really cliche and I think it has pretty much too many points in common with Tokyo MewMew ^^; Still, the manga universe is full of magical girls that look all similar and are enjoyable nonetheless ;)

I'm native Italian, and I studied English and German in school. I'm somewhat rusty with German now, but I could catch it up with some practice. ^^ Then there's Latin too if you want to count it XD (it was mandatory in my school)
If you're a second year in Japanese, I bet you're way better than I am XD I know the basics of grammar (although my knowledge is kinda choppy since I've never studied it seriously enough) and can read hiragana and katakana, but nowhere near fluent and I often don't even understand what I read ^^; I know very few kanji, most of those pretty useless in normal language XD; (because I learned them from songs or manga character names XD)

I am trying to design a manga cover like the one you have but I don't know where to start with it. I have asked several people for help but so far no replies. I would just like the basics explained to me please on how to start it because I don't want just a picture and text for the cover. I would like something that can grab others attention. If you could help me out in some way or give me some pointers than I would be more than happy to pay you back in some way. Thank you so much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Actually, I'm not sure about what tips to give you other than look at several manga covers and see how their layout is. I didn't really follow any set rules, I was just imitating things I've seen on the countless manga I own.
Well, if there's something... there's one general tip I can tell you, which actually applies to most designs involving text, including fliers, promo posters, and all... don't shove in every font you have on your hard disk, nor overcrowd everything with shiny effects ^^; Sometimes simpler and cleaner is better... This is something I see doing all the time, and makes the overall look confused and/or unprofessional. You can go wild with the main title because the logo can be noisy to attract attention, but stick with one or 2 simple fonts for the rest.

That really helps a lot. I will be sure to keep in mind about the fonts because I know how cluttered it could be with so much going on. Thanks again for the help! ^^
